The Ninch Tour

The morning of Wednesday 3rd October 2012 dawned bright and beautiful and I released a sigh of relief as I was about to showcase my backyard to my fellow students from the Tasmanian Polytechnic as a part of a major assignment. The Tasman Peninsula, affectionately dubbed the NINCH by some, is my soul home. I love it deeply, as soon as I cross that dinky little swing bridge at Dunalley I breathe HOME! And so for it to be displayed to my colleagues in all its glory was the first triumph of the day.

I met my classmates at the Dunalley Waterfront Cafe for a cup of coffee and to truely start our journey. I chose this particular place because of the historic appeal, the service and most of all, the setting. It is quite seriously the most picturesque cafe I have ever been to...the view across Blackman Bay is astounding on a bright sunny morning. Seeing the boats gently bob at the old jetty is soothing and the fact that Ben and Steph are passionate about providing their customers with fabulous service and divine coffee really is the clincher. http://www.facebook.com/dunalleywaterfrontcafe?ref=ts&fref=ts#!/dunalleywaterfrontcafe?fref=ts

I love to bring friends and family here especially because of the wonderful childrens area, my 4 year old is occupied long enough for us to enjoy a cuppa and partake of the divine menu on offer.

Feedback from my class mates: "Awesome view, good service, nice coffee, dreamy wharf, the seating on the balcony was enjoyed by all". These opinions should not be taken lightly. These guy and gals have been trained in hospitality and tourism by some of the best...they know their stuff!

The building originally housed a fish cannery which began operation in 1942 to provide provisions for the Australian troops fighting overseas during WWII. It ceased trading in the 1960's. !n 1998 Peter and Tina Clark opened an antique and collectibles store and refurbished the building to house a cafe in 2000. I actually worked at the Waterfront during this period as a "Jill-of-trades", I worked as waitress, retail assistant, barista, short order cook and eventually took on a supervisory role. This may be the reason I have a certain affection for the place....my blog...my bias.

Any way it was quite difficult to tear the students away from the cafe, this is a place you can sit for hours with such great company but there was more to come and we were on a very tight schedule!! I am a tour guide by trade and training so the itinerary had to be obeyed!! LOL

But wait, there is more....coming soon...until then...Happy Travels

PS Thanks Christy for letting me use this great picture of the jetty!!

The start of a beautiful relationship....

I feel I ought to introduce myself in order that we become better acquainted ...I am a forty year old student (still have not decided what I want to be when I grow up!) with two sons, DS1 is a wonderful 17 year old and DS2 is a precocious 4 year old, both fill my life with joy and challenges lol.

I am studying at the Tasmanian Polytechnic for an Advanced Diploma in Tourism Management which is the reason behind this BLOG, as part of my studies I wanted to share the passion I have for my home state to a wider audience. And so developing this blog is now a part of my assessment in order to achieve the Diploma.

I love my home state, it is bred into me. I am a 9th generation Tasmanian who loves to travel around this beautiful island as much as I possibly can. I feel I have an advantage as a Taswegian in that I have plenty of insider knowledge of where to stay, what eat and how much it will likely cost.

This was not the case when the family drove across the Nullabour Desert two Christmas' ago. Talk about your proverbial ducks out of water!! I realised just how tricky travel can be and how much we must have been missing out on as we knew nothing of the places we visited, alot was discovered in hindsight!

As a Tour Guide I feel obligated to enhance as many peoples experience of Tasmania as I possibly can but as self confessed technology dyslexic I have been to slow to embrace the social network, but no longer! Look out cyber space here I come...armed with my travel plans, tips and pitfalls.

I will give you a totally biased view of TASMANIA, a personal recounting of my experiences in order that you can perhaps experience it all yourselves one day, this place has to be on every ones BUCKET LIST, it is simply the most beautiful place in the world. (Told you I was biased!!)

My next post will be about a class trip to the Tasman Peninsula and wonderful things we crammed into 1 day.

Til then....happy travels
